The Bianconeri Rescue Thrilling Tie Following Eight-Goal Second Half Clash Against Borussia Dortmund
British defender Lloyd Kelly scored an equaliser deep into stoppage time of added time to rescue a point for the Italian giants following a thrilling goal-laden second half at home to Dortmund.
The Defender’s Redemption After Spot-Kick Mistake
Defender Kelly – who joined from Newcastle this offseason – had given away a penalty that allowed the visitors to go 4-2, before he followed up Dusan Vlahovic's late equaliser by heading home a cross from Vlahovic later.
Slow Start Gives Way to Scoring Frenzy
Neither side created little worth mentioning in the opening 45 minutes while they cancelled each other out in midfield.
The first half would not have enthused viewers, yet anyone who persisted were treated to a burst of real excitement after halftime – as Juventus fought back three times, with eight goals scored from the 51st minute onward.
It is just the second-ever UCL game where eight scores have been scored during a single half, after the second half in Bayern's 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb last season.
Back-and-Forth Action
Karim Adeyemi put Dortmund ahead the opener when he neatly maneuvered the ball just outside of the box and placed it into the far corner.
The German side improved considerably with their finishing, however, little over 10 minutes after, a piece of Juventus magic by Yildiz ended with the Turkey international bending a stunning strike top bins from range.
Under two minutes passed and Dortmund were again in front, with Felix Nmecha delivering another sublime finish curling a one-time strike into the top corner.
Yet the drama continued with further twists to come, and Vlahovic coolly finishing when one-on-one under two minutes to level once more.
Stoppage-Time Heroics
Having lost the lead on two occasions, BVB retook control again as Couto, charging into the penalty area, fired a powerful shot inside of the post, just beyond the outstretched hand of Michele di Gregorio.
Ramy Bensebaini doubled the advantage from the penalty spot when former U21 star Kelly touched the ball in his box.
However the Serbian blasted a late effort in off the woodwork before setting up former club back Kelly to secure a late draw.
